Horizon Church of the Nazarene

About Us

Horizon Church of the Nazarene was organised in the early 1950s, originally as a suburban outreach in the fast-growing satellite city of Johannesburg called Roodepoort, then a bustling gold-mining town. Beginning in a missionary's garage, and later in a little church, Horizon Church of the Nazarene has occupied the same corner site in Horizon, a quiet and leafy suburb of Roodepoort, at the intersection of Paul Kruger and Judd Streets.

The current church replaced in 1984 the little corner building familiar to several generations. In the past few years, the church has begun to deliberately move back into a family oriented ministry, a love for its community, and a desire to grow into a multicultural church representing our rainbow nation of South Africa. We are a part of the International Church of the Nazarene, a Weslyan denomination that celebrates and teaches Biblical holiness.

If you live on the West Rand and near or in Roodepoort, we would love to have you visit our friendly and involved church and to become a part of our community of care. The Church of the Nazarene is a global community of faith composed of individuals who have made Jesus Christ Lord of their lives. We share our life together in Christian fellowship, seeking to strengthen each other in faith development through worship, teaching, preaching, fellowship and service. Beyond this, we strive to express the compassion of Jesus Christ to all persons along with our personal commitment to Christ-like living
